I Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
 
For centuries, people have been playing ‘kicking games’ with a ball. The game of soccer developed from some of these early games. The English probably gave soccer its name and its first set of rules.
 
Organized soccer games began in 1863. In soccer, two teams of eleven players try to kick or head the ball into their opponents’ goal. The goalie who tries to keep the ball out of the goal is the only player on the field who is allowed to touch the ball with his or her hands. The other players must use their feet, heads and bodies to control the ball.
 
Every four years, soccer teams around the world compete for the World Cup. The World Cup competition started in 1930. People in more than 140 countries around the world play soccer. It is the national sport of most European and Latin American countries. Soccer is definitely the world’s most popular sport.

B) Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
 
Once upon a time, in a small country, people decided to find out what it was that parents really liked the most. A competition was organized. It would use the latest invention of Professor Crank-Shafte: the Gladometer. To date, the Gladometer was the only machine that could measure joy and happiness. So one by one, the children demonstrated their own particular talents to their parents. The Gladometer faithfully measured their parents’ reaction.
 
One boy turned up with a trained dog; the dog sang and danced. A girl came and played the violin like an angel, and an intelligent boy came and read his vey big book. The parents’ happiness was plain to see. Finally; a boy came to the Gladometer carrying nothing. When the organizers asked him, what he was going to do., he simply said, “Nothing, but I am very obedient.” This said, the machine measured such a high reading that it began to vibrate violently and finally exploded. The boy, who had done nothing, won all the prizes that day for solving the mystery of what pleases parents the most.

The earth will continue to renew its resources only as we and all the other people of the world do our part to conserve. Environmentalists have devised a plan which, if followed sincerely will both save our precious resources and keep pollution levels under control. This plan consists in following 3 R’s – restricting, reusing and recycling.
 
Restricting means checking ourselves from unnecessary buying. We often buy an object not because we need it but because it has caught our fancy or it is being offered at a discount. This kind of buying needs to be checked. We should ask ourselves whether the item we are going to buy is something we really
 
need, whether it is well suited to meet our need and whether it will last. This exercise will not only save money but also space an extra work. Reusing implies finding a new use for an existing item, like reusing envelopes or paper bags, turning a used box into a storage box, etc. it is important to reuse items wisely. Giving away used clothes, shoes, books and toys in charity is a good way of saving resources.
 
Recycling is possible in the case of the objects that can be shredded, melted or otherwise processed and turned into new raw material. Paper, glass, plastic, and aluminum can be easily recycled to turn them into new products.
