Definition-A noun is a kind of word that is usually the name of something such as a person, place, thing.
Ex- Person- Ram, Shyam.
Place- Kanpur, Lucknow.
Thing- Knife, Ball.

Kinds of Nouns.
1. Common Noun.
2. Proper Noun.
3. Collective Noun.
4. Material Noun.
5. Abstract Noun.
6. Countable Noun.
7. Uncountable Noun.

1. Common Noun- Common nouns refer to people, places and things in general like chair or dog.
Any noun that is not a name is a common noun.
Ex. Chair, Dog etc.

2. Proper Noun- A proper noun is the name of particular person, place or a thing.
Ex. India, Yamuna, Lucknow.

3. Collective Noun- A collective noun is a collection of persons or things taken together and spoken of as one whole.
Ex. The word bunch stands for a collection of keys.
The word class stands for a collection of Students.

4. Material Noun- A noun which stands for the matter or substance of which things are made of is called material noun.
Ex. Iron, silver, gold, etc.

5. Abstract Noun- AN abstract noun is the name of [some quality, feeling or an idea that we can only think of or feel but cannot touch or see.
Ex. heat, cold, air, etc.

6. Countable Noun- A noun that stands for things that can be counted.
Ex. boy, room, cow, etc.
There are 4 boys, There are 7 rooms in a hotel, etc.

7. Uncountable Noun- The names or things that cannot be counted.
Ex. coffee, gold, beauty, etc.

1. The Indian army showed great courage.
Ans- Courage (Abstract Noun)

2. People wear cotton clothes in summer.

3. This safe is made of Iron.
Ans- Iron (Material)

Ans- Wisdom (Abstract)

5. A heap of books is lying on the table.
Ans- heap of books (Collective)

Ans- Girl (Common)

7. There are 5 balls.
Ans- 5 balls (Countable)

8. Knowledge is the goal of education.
Ans- Knowledge (Uncountable)
