Delhi Police Constable (unlike UP Police, Bihar Police) includes a Computer Fundamentals section (10 marks). This covers MS Office, internet basics, hardware, operating systems. Start Computer Awareness preparation early — many Constable aspirants miss this section entirely.
⏱️ SI Paper I Has 30-Minute Sectional Timing
SSC CPO Paper I has strict 30-minute time per section. You cannot skip a section and return later. Cannot compensate weak sections with extra time from stronger sections. Each of the 4 sections (50Q each) must be attempted within exactly 30 minutes.
🚗 Driving Licence Mandatory for Delhi SI Male Candidates
Male candidates applying for Sub Inspector in Delhi Police must possess a valid motor driving licence (LMV - Light Motor Vehicle). Female candidates are exempt. Obtain driving licence before applying — it's a mandatory eligibility document.

🏃 Physical Test Standards - Constable and SI
Physical tests are mandatory qualifying stages for both Constable and SI. Failure means disqualification. For SI, physical test comes between Paper I and Paper II.
StandardMale (Constable)Female (Constable)Male (SI/CPO)Female (SI/CPO)
Height170 cm157 cm170 cm157 cm
Chest (Male only)80 cm unexpanded, 85 cm expandedN/A80 cm / 85 cmN/A
1600m Run (Male)6 min 30 sec6 min 30 sec
800m Run (Female)4 min4 min
Long Jump12 feet / 3.65 m9 feet / 2.75 m12 feet9 feet
High Jump3.5 feet / 1.06 m3 feet / 0.91 m3.5 feet3 feet
⚠️ Height standards (170 cm male) are significantly higher for Delhi Police than most state police forces. Many candidates who qualify for UP Police or Bihar Police physical tests may not meet Delhi Police height. Verify your height against 170 cm before applying. For SI: physical test falls between Paper I and Paper II — failing physical after clearing Paper I means you cannot attempt Paper II.
✅ Eligibility Criteria

💰 Salary, Pay Scale and Career
Delhi Police posts offer central government pay scales (7th CPC) with Delhi-specific HRA and allowances. Being posted in Delhi means significant House Rent Allowance.
PostPay LevelBasic PayGross Salary in Delhi (Approx.)
Delhi Police ConstableLevel 3Rs.21,700Rs.38,000 - Rs.55,000/month (high HRA in Delhi)
Delhi Police Head Constable (Ministerial)Level 4Rs.25,500Rs.44,000 - Rs.62,000/month
Delhi Police Sub Inspector (SI)Level 6Rs.35,400Rs.60,000 - Rs.80,000/month
💡 Delhi advantage: Delhi HRA (House Rent Allowance) is the highest in India — X category city. A Delhi Police Constable earning Rs.21,700 basic gets HRA of approximately Rs.5,423/month (27% of basic) plus DA and other allowances, making the gross salary significantly higher than the same pay level in smaller cities. Additional benefits: Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), NPS pension, uniform allowance, risk allowance for police duty.
💡 Expert Preparation Tips
From our faculty who have guided thousands of Delhi Police Constable, HCM and SI selected candidates
1
Computer Awareness is Delhi Police Constable's differentiating section — most candidates under-prepare it - Delhi Police Constable is the only major constable-level police exam in India with a dedicated Computer Awareness section (10 marks = 10% of total). Candidates who prepare from generic UP Police or Bihar Police study material will not have Computer Awareness content. This section is consistently scoring — questions on MS Office shortcuts, hardware/software distinction, internet terms, operating systems and storage units are predictable and learnable. Spending 2-3 weeks specifically on Computer Awareness gives you a near-guaranteed 8-9 out of 10 marks in this section, which is the equivalent of answering 8-9 more GK or Reasoning questions correctly. Competitors who skip Computer Awareness are effectively capping themselves at 90 marks maximum while you can reach 100.
2
SSC CPO SI Paper I's 30-minute sectional timing requires fundamentally different preparation than timed exam practice - SSC CPO Paper I (200 questions in 120 minutes) has strict 30-minute per section timing introduced in 2025. Each of the 4 sections has 50 questions in 30 minutes = 36 seconds per question. This is significantly faster than most exam practice speeds. The key implication: you cannot compensate for a slow section with a fast section. If you find Quantitative Aptitude slow, you cannot use leftover English time. Practice each section independently under 30-minute timed conditions. If you cannot complete 50 Reasoning questions in 30 minutes consistently, reduce time to 28 minutes in practice (2-minute buffer for review). This sectional timing discipline separates SSC CPO from other police exams and requires specific preparation.
3
English is 50% of SI total marks (250 out of 400) — it's the biggest merit determinant in SSC CPO - SSC CPO Paper I has English Comprehension (50 marks) and Paper II is entirely English (200 marks). Together, English contributes 250 out of 400 total merit marks = 62.5% of the final score. GK (50 marks) and Reasoning (50 marks) in Paper I are the only non-English papers contributing to merit. Many CAPF and police aspirants from Hindi-medium or regional-medium backgrounds underestimate English in SSC CPO and focus exclusively on GK and Reasoning. This is a critical strategic error — a candidate who scores 45/50 in English Paper I and 170/200 in Paper II (215 English marks total) versus a candidate who scores 30/50 and 120/200 (150 English marks) has a 65-mark advantage that is nearly impossible to compensate through Maths and GK alone.
4
Head Constable Ministerial's "No Negative Marking" is a rare advantage — attempt all 100 questions - Delhi Police Head Constable Ministerial is one of very few SSC-conducted exams with no negative marking. Unlike Constable (-0.25) and SI (-0.25 both papers), HCM candidates have zero penalty for wrong answers. This fundamentally changes strategy — attempt ALL 100 questions regardless of confidence level. For uncertain questions, eliminate obviously wrong options and pick from remaining choices. With 100 questions in 90 minutes (54 seconds per question), time management is more challenging than other exams but the no-negative rule means every attempted question has positive expected value. HCM also requires typing speed (30 wpm English or 25 wpm Hindi) — start typing practice from Day 1 of preparation since speed takes months to build.
5
Delhi Police is open to all Indian citizens — no domicile requirement — this dramatically increases competition - Unlike UP Police (UP domicile preferred), Bihar Police (Bihar domicile required for reserved categories) or MPSC (Maharashtra domicile), Delhi Police Constable, HCM and SI via SSC CPO are completely open to candidates from all states. This means lakh of candidates from every state compete. The quality of competition is significantly higher than state-specific police exams. Cut-offs are consequently higher — Delhi Police Constable general cut-offs have historically been in the 70-85 range out of 100 (compared to 55-65 for some state police exams). Prepare with national-level SSC exam standards rather than state-level police exam standards. SSC CGL/CHSL preparation material is highly relevant for SSC CPO and Delhi Police Constable preparation due to syllabus overlap.
6
Male SI candidates: obtain driving licence before applying — it's a mandatory eligibility document - A valid LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) driving licence is mandatory for male candidates applying for Sub Inspector in Delhi Police through SSC CPO. This requirement is unique to Delhi Police SI among central police exams. Female candidates are exempt. If you do not have a driving licence, the process (learner's licence → 30-day wait → driving test) takes a minimum of 35-40 days. Many candidates discover this requirement only after the notification is released and then cannot meet the deadline. The SSC CPO 2026 notification is confirmed for 31 May 2026 with applications closing 30 June 2026. Obtain your LMV driving licence well before May 2026. Also note: the licence must be valid (not expired), and it must be an LMV (car/jeep category) licence — two-wheeler only licence is not sufficient.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions - Delhi Police 2026
Most searched questions about Delhi Police Constable, Head Constable Ministerial and SI exam pattern and eligibility answered
No — none of the three Delhi Police posts (Constable, Head Constable Ministerial, Sub Inspector) require Delhi or NCT domicile. All three are recruited through SSC (Staff Selection Commission), which conducts national-level examinations open to all Indian citizens from any state. Candidates from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and every other state can apply and compete equally for Delhi Police posts. This is one of the key attractions of Delhi Police — it provides government employment opportunities in India's capital city to candidates from across the country. However, since there is no domicile restriction, competition is correspondingly high with lakhs of applicants from all states for relatively limited vacancies. The quality of competition is equivalent to SSC CGL/CHSL national-level exams.
SSC CPO Paper II is a 200-mark, entirely English Language examination that comes after the physical endurance test (PET/PST) and medical examination. This is a unique two-phase written structure: Paper I (all subjects) → Physical Test → Paper II (English only). The rationale is that Delhi Police SI requires both general aptitude (Paper I) and strong English communication skills (Paper II), and the physical test acts as a filter between the two written stages. Paper II was historically 1/3 negative marking but was changed to 1/4 (-0.25) from 2025 onwards. The practical implication: candidates who do not clear the physical test or medical examination will not attempt Paper II even if they scored excellently in Paper I. This means physical preparation must happen simultaneously with written preparation — you cannot defer fitness to after Paper I results. Final merit = Paper I marks + Paper II marks = maximum 400 marks.
Delhi Police Constable and Delhi Police SI (via SSC CPO) are completely separate recruitments with different eligibility, exam patterns and career levels. Constable (12th pass, age 18-25, 100-mark exam, Pay Level 3) is the entry-level post with ground-level policing duties. SI (graduation required, age 20-25, 400-mark two-paper exam, Pay Level 6) is the first supervisory officer post with investigation, FIR registration and administrative responsibilities. If you are a graduate aged 20-25 meeting both eligibility criteria, you can apply for both. However, since Delhi Police Constable and SSC CPO typically have different notification and exam dates, preparation can be done simultaneously. SSC CPO preparation (especially GK, Reasoning, Maths and English at higher level) covers all content needed for Constable (which tests the same subjects at lower difficulty). If you qualify for SI, joining SI gives significantly better career trajectory than Constable even though Constable may have more vacancies in a given year.
Delhi Police Head Constable Ministerial (HCM) is an office/clerical post within the Delhi Police administrative structure, unlike Constable (Executive) which is a field/law enforcement post. HCM candidates work primarily in office settings — managing records, data entry, correspondence, typing — rather than patrol, investigation or crowd control. Key differences from Executive Constable: HCM requires a typing speed test (30 wpm English or 25 wpm Hindi) and a Computer Proficiency Test, which Executive Constable does not; HCM has no negative marking in CBT (Constable has -0.25); HCM pays Pay Level 4 (slightly higher than Constable's Level 3); HCM has a Computer section carrying 20 marks (20% of exam) versus Constable's 10 marks (10%). HCM candidates must have computer knowledge as part of their education certificate. Work-life balance is generally considered better for HCM (office duties) versus Executive Constable (field duties including night shifts, crowd control, event duty). Both posts are permanent central government positions with the same benefits (CGHS, NPS, HRA).
