- Distant Vision: 6/9 in both eyes (with or without glasses for non-safety posts)
- For safety category posts (Track Maintainer, Pointsman, Gateman): stricter vision - 6/9 without glasses in one eye and 6/12 in other
- Colour Vision: Must be normal for safety-related posts

RRB Group D 2026 - Complete Guide: Eligibility, CBT Pattern, PET Standards, Syllabus and Free Mock Tests
The RRB Group D (Level 1 Posts) exam 2026 is conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards under the Ministry of Railways and is the single largest government recruitment drive in India by vacancy count - typically offering 1,00,000+ posts per cycle. Open to candidates who have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) or hold an ITI certificate, RRB Group D recruits Track Maintainer Grade IV, Helpers across Electrical, Mechanical, Signal and Telecom departments, Pointsman, Gateman, Hospital Attendant, and other Level 1 posts across all 18 Indian Railways zones. All posts are at Pay Level 1 (Rs.18,000 Basic Pay) with a gross salary of Rs.26,000 - Rs.32,000+ per month plus railway-specific benefits including free travel passes, subsidised housing, and free medical.
The RRB Group D selection process has 3 stages: Stage 1 is a Computer Based Test (100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes) covering Mathematics (25 marks), General Intelligence and Reasoning (30 marks), General Science (25 marks - a dedicated subject unique to Group D covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at Class 9-10 NCERT level), and General Awareness and Current Affairs (20 marks). Negative marking is 1/3 mark per wrong answer. Stage 2 is a Physical Efficiency Test - 1000m run in 4 minutes 15 seconds (male) or 5 minutes 40 seconds (female), AND weight carry of 35 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes (20 kg for female). Stage 3 is Document Verification and Medical Examination - with medical standards ranging from A2 (strict, for safety posts) to C2 (lenient, for non-safety posts).
