The SSC GD Constable exam 2026 is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit General Duty Constables across 8 Central Armed Police Forces - BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, Assam Rifles, SSF, and NCB. With 50,000+ vacancies per recruitment cycle, SSC GD is the single largest central government recruitment exam in India by vacancy count. It is open to candidates who have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) and are between 18-23 years of age. Beyond the gross salary of Rs.30,000 - Rs.36,000+ per month, GD Constables receive force-specific allowances, free ration, free accommodation, government pension, and CGHS medical - making this one of the most comprehensive compensation packages among Class 10 level government jobs.
The SSC GD selection process has 4 stages: Stage 1 is a Computer Based Test (80 questions, 160 marks, 60 minutes) covering General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English or Hindi. Stage 2 is the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) - 5 km run in 24 minutes for male candidates and 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes for female candidates - and Physical Standard Test (PST) measuring height and chest. Stage 3 is a Medical Examination covering eyesight, hearing, physical fitness, and absence of disqualifying conditions. Stage 4 is Document Verification and final allotment based on merit, force vacancy, and candidate preference.
